Blog: 5 Key Features on the New Oscar Website

In May 2015 I joined Oscar with the remit of playing a key role in a company rebrand and the construction of a brand new website. Daunting was an understatement.


In collaboration with our industry-leading web developers, 4MAT, we set out with the goal of producing a website which is a direct reflection of our new mission statement: “providing Recruiting Excellence to every person we work with.

After months of design drafts, failed ideas, flashes of inspiration, meticulous bug testing, working late into the evening and absurd amounts of coffee, we finally achieved our ambitions and proudly unveiled our new website to the public.

In the strive for Excellence, we have implemented a number of cutting edge features - all based on providing the end user with the best possible online experience.

Here are five of my favourites:

Advanced Job Search


The key feature of any recruiter’s website is a clear, easy to use job search; but from our market research it was incredible to see how many poor examples were out there!

Oscar’s job search function is a feature of the website that we are immensely proud of, following extensive development work to add features that our candidates requested.

To find a new role, users can search for positions based on a number of smart filters, including the job title, location, salary, industry and more, and easily set up email Job Alerts based on these criteria.

Once you have selected a listing that interests you, you then have the options to view similar jobs, contact the recruiter by phone or email, apply with one click, or add the job to your shortlist and continue searching.

When looking for a new position, the amount of time job-seekers must spend filling in registration forms is mind-boggling.

To streamline the application process, the Oscar website gives you the option to apply for a job using your LinkedIn profile. This advanced feature will pull though relevant data from your LinkedIn account at the push of a button, making the job application process quick and incredibly simple.

Prefer a more “old school” approach? Registering and uploading your CV takes just two minutes.

The Social Hub

Some of my favourite testimonials from our clients and candidates are those which single out one of our recruiters for proactively building a professional relationship with them – taking the time to get to know them and their company to understand and deliver on their exact requirements.

We wanted our website to represent our recruiters as more than just a voice at the end of a telephone, and developed our social hub to achieve this.

Using the hub, candidates and clients can easily search for and speak to the consultant who recruits for their skill set and location, which has led to some great feedback of warmer and more personable conversations.

Reactive News


Many recruitment websites offer industry news and tips – but when you are looking for Business Change and Transformation jobs, a range of “suggested articles” about Java Development are rarely relevant.

Oscar’s news and banners react to the content you are searching for on our website, ensuring that you are only ever presented with information which is applicable to your requirements.

Full Mobile Optimisation

Mobile web usage is growing. Fast.

Mobile visits account for around 25-35% of our site traffic – yet we were astounded during our market research by the number of our competitors whose websites are not mobile friendly.

Nobody wants to be squinting at tiny text or circumnavigating broken links, so each page of the Oscar website has been meticulously redesigned (by me!) and fully optimised for mobile use.

This includes larger buttons, shorter body text and a more effective menu structure to make a big impression on a small screen.
