Senior Software Engineer
Salary: £55,000 - £65,000
Location: Birmingham (Hybrid - 2 days per week in office)

I'm recruiting for a growing Birmingham-based tech company that's building open, scalable software used to power data-driven platforms in the sustainability and energy space. This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer who wants to work on meaningful products, influence technical decisions, and be part of a team that genuinely values good engineering.
You'll be joining a close-knit engineering team of around 12, with a strong senior presence and a collaborative, low-ego culture. Engineers here are trusted to make decisions, challenge ideas, and help shape both the product and the technical roadmap.
Building and evolving large-scale web applications used by organisations across the UK
Designing and delivering new platform features end-to-end
Improving performance, scalability, and reliability of existing systems
Contributing to architectural decisions and long-term technical strategy
Mentoring developers and raising engineering standards
Working closely with Product, Design, and Data teams
Projects include customer-facing dashboards, data ingestion services, internal tooling, and API-first platforms.
Backend: PHP (Laravel), Python
Frontend: JavaScript, TypeScript, React
APIs: REST, GraphQL
Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis
Infrastructure: Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD
Cloud: AWS
Testing: PHPUnit, Jest, automated integration testing
You don't need experience in everything - strong fundamentals and an interest in learning are far more important.
Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineer
Strong background in modern web application development
Experience working with open-source technologies in production
Confident making technical decisions and guiding others
Comfortable mentoring, reviewing code, and improving processes
A pragmatic, collaborative mindset
Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 depending on experience
Hybrid working: 2 days per week in a Birmingham office
