Senior Software Engineer (.NET)

Financial Services Consultancy | Payments & Gateways
📍 Oxford area (Hybrid - 3 days in office)
💷 £70,000 base + discretionary bonus

I'm currently working with a well-established financial services technology consultancy based in the Oxford area. The business specialises in delivering complex, high-volume systems for banks, FinTech's, and payment providers, with projects heavily focused on payment integrations and gateway platforms.

They're looking to hire a Senior Software Engineer to join their engineering team, someone who can combine hands-on development with mentoring and technical leadership.

The Opportunity

This is a hybrid role, ideally requiring three days per week in the office, and offers exposure to a wide range of client projects rather than a single internal product.

You'll be working in regulated, transaction-heavy environments where quality, scalability, and security are critical.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Designing and building solutions using .NET Framework
  • Delivering projects centred around payment gateways, integrations, and transactional systems
  • Developing front-end applications using modern JavaScript frameworks (Angular or React preferred)
  • Deploying and maintaining applications in Microsoft Azure
  • Working with containerised environments and Kubernetes
  • Collaborating with senior engineers, architects, and client stakeholders
  • Owning code quality, best practices, and technical decision-making
  • Mentoring junior and mid-level engineers

What They're Looking For

  • 5-10 years' commercial software engineering experience
  • Strong expertise in .NET Framework (modern .NET/.NET Core exposure beneficial)
  • Experience with Angular or React
  • Proven hands-on experience with Azure
  • Experience working with Kubernetes
  • Background in financial services, ideally with payments exposure
  • Experience with payment integrations, gateways, or high-volume transactional systems
  • Demonstrated mentoring or technical leadership experience
  • Comfortable working in a consultancy or client-facing environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience with AWS
  • Previous consultancy experience
  • Strong API and integration skills
  • Exposure to regulated or compliance-driven systems

What's On Offer

  • £70,000 base salary
  • Discretionary annual bonus
  • Hybrid working model (3 days per week in the office)
  • Technically challenging projects within financial services and payments
  • Clear progression and opportunities for technical leadership
