Datacentre Patching Manager | 6 months | Start Date: January 2027 | Remote - UK

We are looking for an experienced Datacentre Patching Manager to take ownership of the patching pipeline across critical datacentre infrastructure.

This role will be responsible for ensuring patching activities are planned, risk-assessed, tested and successfully implemented, whilst maintaining service availability and operational resilience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and manage the end-to-end patching pipeline for the relevant platform.

  • Maintain accurate asset inventories, software versions and patch-status reporting.

  • Assess prerequisites, dependencies and potential risks associated with patching activities.

  • Review and develop implementation, validation and rollback scripts.

  • Coordinate pre-change health checks and post-change testing.

  • Ensure engineers have the necessary access, training and information to carry out changes.

  • Confirm patching results meet agreed acceptance criteria.

  • Escalate failed changes, service risks and recurring defects.

  • Maintain accurate change records and auditable evidence.

  • Work closely with engineering, operations, vendors and service owners.

  • Support troubleshooting and recovery where changes do not go to plan.

  • Provide compliance and exception reporting to the Global Patching Manager.

Required Experience

  • Experience managing patching activities within a datacentre or enterprise infrastructure environment.

  • Strong understanding of core routing and switching, data-centre interconnects and spine-and-leaf architectures.

  • Knowledge of WAN connectivity, redundancy and failover.

  • Understanding of virtualisation and hosting dependencies.

  • Experience coordinating maintenance windows across resilient infrastructure, clusters or paired environments.

  • Strong operational risk management and change governance experience.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

Working Arrangements

The position will involve some weekend and out-of-hours working. A shift pattern is currently being developed, with managers expected to work approximately one weekend per month. Flexibility around working patterns and maintenance windows is therefore essential.

The contract will remain 40 hours per week.
