At Oscar, your career progression is based on demonstrating the skills and techniques that you need to understand, rather than when you need to understand it by.

Different people progress within different time frames. Our six stage training programme has been developed to help you learn the skills you will need to succeed in the recruitment world at your own pace, with a team of experts at hand to help you every step of the way.

1. Introduction to Recruitment

At the beginning of your career with Oscar, the emphasis is on understanding the recruitment basics.

We explain how and why we speak to candidates, centred on understanding their motivations to change their role, and look at the primary factors which can influence the decision of whether or not a candidate will take a job.


2. Finding Candidates

Key Knowledge:

  • Resourcing Strategy
  • Understanding Job Briefs
  • Finding the Right Candidate

As you get to grips with why a candidate's journey, you will very quickly link this to how and where we find them.

You will learn all about our resourcing strategy and understanding the client's job brief in order to find the right candidates.

We can then also begin to proactively work out how we can utilise candidates in more than one role to ensure we increase the potential of finding the right role for the candidate.


3. Progressing an Application

  • Recruitment Life Cycle
  • Candidate / Client Management

Getting candidates interested in a role is just the beginning – we now need to prepare their CV for the client and manage them through to offer and placement.

At this point, you will get to understand how to handle objections and why this process is much easier if we have demonstrated a full understanding of stages one & two. Being able to recruit is about gathering information and using it in a way to fit the needs of all parties.

You will, at this point, have a clear understanding of the recruitment life cycle from a candidate perspective, and you will be aware of Oscar's techniques surrounding interview management, offer management, post offer management of candidates, and contractor management processes.


4. Business Development

Once you have honed your skills within all things candidate-driven, you will be in a position to start advancing your knowledge of the client side of the recruitment life cycle.

Part of the client side focusses on new business development and the skill is to effectively apply this information gathered, coupled with our methodologies, as part of your new business development planning.

Identifying an opportunity for business is just the beginning, and you will later understand the key to success of converting the opportunity into a placement.


5. Recruitment Life Cycle

  • Building Business Relationships
  • Specialist Industry Knowledge

Understanding the recruitment life cycle from the viewpoint of the client and the candidate is crucial to a successful Recruiter. As part of this success, we train each Consultant in a chosen field within the industry.

Recognising market trends, skill demands and how to provide this talent to clients is an underlying theme in your every day activity and achievements. Nurturing business relationships to allow you to maintain a long lasting pipeline is what client management is all about, and learning how this is done is a vital part of your development.

Our training teaches you the importance of how to manage situations to ensure delivery; consulting with clients regarding requirements and market conditions; identifying realistic outcomes based on all factors involved in the recruitment process. Understanding your market alongside recruitment expertise enables you to deliver Recruiting Excellence to your candidates and clients.


6. Graduation

Key Knowledge:

  • Ability to Demonstrate All Knowledge from Steps 1-5

Once you have proven your abilities to demonstrate all of the qualities above, you will graduate the School of Excellence Trainee Programme!

  • In 2017, 67% of Trainees graduated within 2-4 months
  • 40% of Consultants were promoted to senior status in 2017
