Overview

A well-established construction and engineering organization is seeking an experienced Survey Party Chief to lead field survey crews on projects within chemical plants and oil refineries. This role is responsible for overseeing daily survey operations, ensuring accurate data collection, and supporting construction and maintenance activities in complex industrial environments.

This is a field-based position with a strong emphasis on leadership, safety, and hands-on surveying within active plant settings.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage daily activities of the survey crew on active job sites within chemical plants and refineries

  • Perform construction layout and stakeout for industrial projects, including process units and infrastructure

  • Operate and oversee use of survey equipment including total stations and GPS (RTK and static)

  • Interpret blueprints, plans, P&IDs, and site drawings to guide field operations

  • Collect, process, and report survey data accurately to project stakeholders

  • Perform field calculations including coordinate geometry and trigonometry

  • Maintain detailed and accurate daily field logs and reports

  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and plant personnel to meet project requirements

  • Ensure strict adherence to site safety protocols and industrial standards

  • Manage crew schedules, productivity, and performance in the field


Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a Party Chief or Survey Crew Chief

  • 5+ years of experience in land surveying, preferably within chemical plants, refineries, or heavy industrial environments

  • Strong experience with construction layout, topographic, and boundary surveys

  • Proficiency with total stations, GPS (RTK/static), and survey data collection tools

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, industrial plans, and site layouts

  • Solid math skills including trigonometry and coordinate geometry

  • Strong leadership and communication skills


Requirements

  • Valid driver's license

  • TWIC card and industrial safety training strongly preferred

  • Willingness to travel and work out of town as needed

  • Ability to work weekends or extended hours based on project demands

  • Comfortable working in active industrial environments including chemical plants and refineries
