Project Manager - Transmission & Substation Construction
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to support high-voltage transmission line and substation construction projects in a fast-paced self-perform construction environment. This role will be responsible for overseeing project execution from preconstruction through completion while managing schedules, budgets, field coordination, subcontractors, and client communication.
This position follows a 3 weeks on / 1 week off rotation schedule and requires travel to project sites.
Responsibilities:
* Manage transmission line and substation construction projects from kickoff through closeout
* Oversee self-perform construction operations, field execution, and project delivery
* Coordinate with superintendents, field leadership, subcontractors, engineering teams, and clients
* Develop and maintain project schedules, manpower planning, and construction sequencing
* Track budgets, production, forecasting, change orders, and overall project performance
* Ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with quality standards
* Lead project meetings and provide regular progress updates to internal and external stakeholders
* Support procurement, material tracking, and site logistics coordination
* Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, contracts, and construction documents
* Identify project risks, resolve field issues, and maintain schedule and budget objectives
* Manage subcontractor performance while maintaining strong relationships with clients and field teams
* Support project turnover, commissioning coordination, and final closeout activities
Qualifications:
* 5-10+ years of project management experience within transmission line and/or substation construction
* Strong self-perform construction experience is required
* Experience managing high-voltage electrical infrastructure projects
* Background working for utilities, EPC contractors, or self-perform contractors
* Strong understanding of transmission line construction methods and substation installation practices
* Experience managing project schedules, budgets, forecasting, and reporting
* Ability to lead field teams and coordinate across multiple project stakeholders
* Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
* Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, contracts, and specifications
* OSHA certification preferred
* Willingness to travel and work a 3 weeks on / 1 week off rotation schedule
Preferred Experience:
* HV Transmission line projects (500kV+)
* AIS and GIS substation construction
* Greenfield and brownfield utility infrastructure projects
* Large-scale utility or EPC construction environments
* Experience managing multiple crews and fast-track construction schedules
* Field-up background in construction, electrical, or transmission operations preferred
