BESS Commissioning Manager / Engineer

CORE REQUIREMENT

A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) is required and should be screened strictly. Prioritize candidates who have the degree plus electrical field / engineering experience with a large EPC, utility, power delivery, substation, or utility-scale renewable-energy contractor. Do not assume a different engineering degree satisfies the requirement. If the candidate has a degree with a different title or international equivalency, flag it for verification rather than silently approving or rejecting it.

WHAT THE ROLE DOES

Supports utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) projects through construction, electrical testing, commissioning, energization, and turnover. Work is largely electrical, often involving medium-voltage systems inside the facility (for example, 34.5 kV collection) and high-voltage interconnection substations. The candidate should be comfortable with field execution, electrical systems, testing, troubleshooting, safety, and coordination with construction and commissioning teams.

CORE REQUIREMENTS

Prior team leadership AND strong hands-on electrical commissioning / troubleshooting capability. Both matter. Do not recommend someone solely because they have a manager title, or solely because they are technically strong without evidence of leading people or commissioning activities.

WHAT THE ROLE DOES

Oversees commissioning engineers and multiple utility-scale projects, supporting commissioning execution, test plans and schedules, functional testing, troubleshooting, energization, and turnover. The person should be able to diagnose electrical problems, guide engineers through technical issues, coordinate execution across teams, and keep commissioning work moving. The manager must be a technical leader, not just a process / documentation manager.

BEST-FIT BACKGROUNDS

* Electrical Engineer / Electrical Field Engineer / Electrical Project Engineer with field exposure.

* Commissioning Engineer or Electrical Commissioning Engineer.

* Substation Commissioning Engineer or power-delivery field engineer.

* Utility-scale renewables EPC engineer with electrical testing / energization exposure.

* Electrical engineer from a large EPC or electrical contractor with demonstrable field execution.

* BESS experience is helpful but NOT required. Substation, utility power, renewables, and electrical EPC experience can transfer.
