The Opportunity
I'm currently working with a well-established organisation based in the Durham area that is looking to hire a Courier Manager to take ownership of its courier network and play a key role in improving transport performance, service levels and costs.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded and proactive transport professional to become the company's expert on all things courier, logistics and transport. You'll be responsible for developing the courier strategy, managing supplier relationships, negotiating commercial agreements and using data to continually improve performance.
Working closely with Warehouse, Customer Service and Finance teams, you'll ensure the business is using the right courier, at the right price and with the right level of service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain the company's courier strategy, ensuring the appropriate carriers and service levels are being used.
  • Build and manage strong relationships with courier and transport partners.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts and service level agreements.
  • Monitor courier performance and conduct regular supplier performance reviews.
  • Analyse delivery performance, transport costs and trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage courier-related customer complaints, including lost, damaged and delayed deliveries.
  • Raise, monitor and resolve courier claims within required timescales.
  • Work closely with the Warehouse team to manage returned deliveries and investigate unlogged returns.
  • Review courier invoices and investigate pricing discrepancies and anomalies.
  • Produce reports covering courier performance, costs and key performance indicators.
  • Identify opportunities to improve service levels, reduce transport costs and enhance the customer experience.
  • Work closely with internal teams to resolve operational issues and drive improvements across the transport network.
Essential Skills and Experience
  • Previous experience within a courier, logistics, transport or supply chain environment.
  • Experience managing courier or supplier relationships.
  • Strong commercial and negotiation skills.
  • Experience analysing performance data and producing reports.
  • Excellent IT skills, including strong Microsoft Excel experience.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • A proactive approach with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
Desirable Skills
  • Previous experience within manufacturing, distribution or warehousing.
  • Experience managing transport contracts and supplier agreements.
  • Experience handling courier claims and service investigations.
  • Knowledge of ERP or warehouse management systems.
  • Experience using data and KPIs to drive transport and operational improvements.
