Substation Commissioning Engineer
Role Summary
We're seeking an experienced engineer to join our field commissioning team on high-voltage transmission and substation projects. This role is focused on validating, testing, and energizing complex electrical systems to ensure they meet strict technical and safety standards. The engineer will coordinate closely with construction partners, testing vendors, and project stakeholders to deliver fully operational facilities.
What You'll Do
Lead commissioning activities for substation systems, including protection and control schemes.
Develop commissioning schedules and procedures that align with project timelines.
Review and approve test results, relay calibrations, and equipment start-up documentation.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues during system energization, ensuring reliable operation.
Conduct inspections and system walkdowns to verify readiness for turnover.
Provide on-site technical leadership to technicians and third-party contractors.
Ensure strict compliance with safety protocols and regulatory standards.
Deliver clear reporting and feedback after commissioning completion.
Who We're Looking For
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (preferred).
5 years' experience in testing and commissioning of substation or transmission systems.
Hands-on knowledge of protective relays, SCADA integration, and control systems.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and planning skills.
OSHA safety training or equivalent.
Ability to travel to project sites and work in field environments.
Work Environment
Outdoor, high-voltage substation settings.
Extended shifts and physical activity (lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing, standing, confined spaces).
Exposure to weather and varying site conditions.
