Financial Control Manager

Location: Manchester- Hybrid 3 days on site
Salary: £60,000, DOE

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced and commercially minded Financial Controller to and take ownership of the financial operations across the European business.

This is a hands-on role with responsibility across financial reporting, management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, compliance and financial controls, alongside driving improvements to finance processes and systems.

You'll work closely with the CFO to provide accurate financial insight and support commercial decision-making, while managing and developing members of the finance and operations team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Financial Controller who enjoys being close to the detail but also wants to play a key role in the wider growth and development of the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the day-to-day financial operations across the European business.
• Lead the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reporting.
• Support the preparation of annual financial reporting and work closely with external auditors.
• Own the budgeting and forecasting process, providing clear financial insight to senior stakeholders.
• Manage and monitor cash flow, working proactively to identify risks and opportunities.
• Maintain strong financial controls and ensure compliance with relevant financial requirements.
• Oversee VAT responsibilities, including post-Brexit VAT requirements.
• Support financial reporting and compliance across European entities and markets.
• Analyse financial performance and translate data into meaningful commercial recommendations.
• Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, controls, systems and reporting.
• Work closely with the CFO and wider leadership team to support business planning and commercial decision-making.
• Manage, develop and support the Finance Executive and Operations Team Lead.
• Help build a high-performing, efficient and commercially focused finance function.

About You

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical finance knowledge with commercial awareness and excellent people-management skills.

You'll ideally have:

• Proven experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance position, ideally 10 years' experience
• Significant experience within a commercial business environment.
• Experience owning or overseeing a full finance function.
• Strong experience across month-end, management accounts and financial reporting.
• Proven experience with budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management.
• Previous experience managing and developing a finance team.
• Strong knowledge of financial controls, compliance and VAT.
• Experience working with post-Brexit VAT requirements.
• Experience working with external auditors.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to turn financial information into clear commercial recommendations.
• Experience improving finance processes and systems.
• Ideally, experience with Sage Intacct - although this is not essential.
• Experience working across European or international entities/markets would be highly beneficial.
• The ability to operate comfortably at both a strategic and hands-on level.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will be someone who has genuinely owned a finance function, rather than simply having responsibility for one area of finance.

You'll be comfortable getting into the detail of month-end, reporting and cash flow, while also stepping back to provide commercially focused insight to the CFO and wider leadership team.

You'll also be confident managing people, improving processes and working across a business with a European remit.
