Technical Project Engineer

Location: Huddersfield
Salary: Up to £40,000 DOE
Working Pattern: Predominantly office based with some customer-site travel
Travel: Company vans available for customer visits

The Role

We're looking for a Technical Project Engineer to join a growing technical team in Huddersfield.

This is a varied position combining technical support, infrastructure projects and customer-site engineering.

Initially, the role will include a reasonable amount of technical support while you build knowledge of the customer base and wider environment. Over time, the position will become increasingly project focused.

The role has been created as part of succession planning within the engineering team, giving the successful candidate the opportunity to gradually take ownership of work currently carried out by an experienced field engineer.

You'll be involved across a broad range of customer projects, from desktop deployments through to Microsoft 365 migrations, security platform rollouts, networking and wider infrastructure implementations.

What You'll Be Doing

• Delivering technical projects across customer environments

• Supporting the wider Technical Support team when required

• Handling escalated technical issues

• Preparing and deploying PCs and end-user equipment

• Installing equipment at customer sites

• Delivering Microsoft 365 projects

• Supporting migrations from on-premises Exchange to Microsoft 365

• Migrating customers between email security platforms

• Deploying endpoint security and EDR solutions

• Installing and configuring firewalls

• Supporting networking projects and infrastructure changes

• Deploying the wider portfolio of managed IT solutions

• Troubleshooting infrastructure, server and connectivity issues

• Attending customer sites where hands-on support is required

• Working remotely on projects wherever possible

• Supporting technical escalations from the service desk as the role develops

• Working closely with customers throughout project delivery

Technical Experience

We're looking for someone with strong experience across a broad Microsoft infrastructure environment.

Relevant experience could include:

• Microsoft 365

• Exchange / Exchange Online

• Microsoft 365 migrations

• Active Directory

• Group Policy

• Windows Server

• Networking

• Firewalls

• Endpoint security / EDR

• Email security platforms

• Desktop and hardware deployments

• General infrastructure support

• Customer-site project delivery

Previous MSP experience would be highly advantageous, particularly if you have worked across multiple customer environments.

You'll ideally be someone who:

• Has a strong 2nd or 3rd-line technical background

• Wants to move further into infrastructure and project delivery

• Is comfortable working directly with customers

• Can troubleshoot technical issues independently

• Enjoys working across a broad range of technologies

• Is comfortable balancing support and project responsibilities

• Can take ownership of tasks from initial preparation through to implementation

• Is happy travelling to customer sites when required

• Has strong communication and documentation skills

Support & Project Split

This is intentionally a hybrid technical position.

Initially, there will be a greater emphasis on technical support while you become familiar with the business, its customers and the technical environment.

As you develop, the role will become increasingly focused on infrastructure projects, customer deployments and escalated engineering work.

Customer-Site Travel

Although some projects require attendance at customer sites, a significant amount of modern infrastructure work can now be delivered remotely.

The business has company vans available for customer visits.

If there is a requirement to use your own vehicle, mileage can be reimbursed in line with the company's arrangements.
