We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Construction Manager with a strong background in high-voltage substation construction to lead field execution on major utility and EPC projects. This role oversees the full construction lifecycle of substations (500kV) and coordinates all on-site activities to ensure safety, quality, schedule, and budget expectations are met.
The ideal candidate has deep technical knowledge of substation components, a proven history managing multi-discipline construction teams, and the leadership ability to drive complex projects through energization.
Lead all on-site construction activities for high-voltage substation projects, from site prep through energization
Oversee civil, structural, electrical, and protection & control installation, ensuring full alignment with engineering drawings and utility standards
Manage and direct subcontractors, craft labor, equipment operators, and multiple work fronts across the site
Coordinate closely with Engineering, Project Management, Field Supervisors, Testing & Commissioning, and the utility owner
Conduct daily site walkdowns, progress tracking, quality inspections, and safety audits
Identify constructability issues, provide field solutions, and escalate concerns to PM/Engineering as needed
Manage schedules, look-ahead plans, manpower forecasts, and daily reporting
Lead site meetings, toolbox talks, and contractor coordination sessions
Support testing, commissioning, protection & control checkout, and energization planning
Maintain strict compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and utility-specific safety protocols
Ensure documentation, as-built updates, and turnover packages are accurate and complete
10+ years of experience in high-voltage substation construction, with at least 3-5 years in a senior or lead construction role
Proven leadership on 69kV-500kV utility substation builds, upgrades, or greenfield projects
Strong knowledge of substation components (breakers, transformers, switches, P&C systems, grounding, conduit, bus work, structures)
Ability to read and interpret one-lines, three-lines, wiring diagrams, civil plans, and installation drawings
Deep understanding of field safety practices and utility construction procedures
Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to drive project execution
Willingness to travel or work on long-term project assignments
OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR, or similar certifications preferred
Background working for EPCs, utilities, or large electrical contractors
Experience managing multiple subcontractors across civil, electrical, and P&C scopes
Experience supporting commissioning and energization activities
Familiarity with project controls, cost tracking, and scheduling software
