Electrical Drafting Technician - Substation (Grid) Projects

An established engineering firm is seeking an Associate Electrical Engineering Technician to support multidisciplinary project teams within the Distributed Infrastructure sector. This role focuses on Substation (Grid) projects, contributing to the development of critical infrastructure.

Electrical professionals in this position support power systems design by producing detailed deliverables including one-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, general arrangements, elevations, conduit plans, grounding plans, and other substation design documentation.

Job Summary

  • Support engineering teams under general supervision

  • Perform technical tasks requiring intermediate knowledge of electrical engineering principles

  • Utilize digital design tools such as CAD, BIM, and 3D modeling software

  • Create, update, and maintain technical drawings and documentation

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior technicians as needed

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain familiarity with applicable industry standards, systems, document control practices, and internal quality procedures

  • Ensure deliverables meet established quality and compliance requirements

  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail while supporting continuous improvement initiatives

  • Develop and produce project deliverables from various design inputs

  • Perform basic calculations including material quantity take-offs and dimensional verification

  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to reduce design conflicts and interferences

  • Support internal stakeholders while gaining exposure to external client requirements

  • Stay current with evolving tools, technologies, and processes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Certificate required

  • Associate Degree in Drafting or Engineering Design Technology preferred

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2+ years of related experience

  • Ability to successfully complete pre-employment requirements, which may include background screening, drug testing, and motor vehicle record review, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations
