Primary Function

The Senior Project Manager leads the development and execution of complex, high-value medium- and high-voltage electrical substation, transmission line, and distribution line construction projects in industrial and utility settings. This role plays a key part in the proposal and pursuit process and manages projects independently from award through close-out, directing coordination between clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders while driving project planning, budgeting, and critical project objectives within an elevated commitment authority. The position will be based in our Houston, Texas office located at 12301 Kurland Drive STE 400, Houston, TX 77034 and will report to the Company's Director of Project Management.

Duties & Responsibilities

Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:

  • Participate in the project proposal and bid process in conjunction with the Sales department.
  • Negotiate, approve, and execute prime contracts, subcontracts, and change orders within delegated commitment authority under the Delegation of Authority Matrix.
  • Review, evaluate, and implement project specifications, drawing releases, and design changes.
  • Communicate project status, risks, schedule, and costs to all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop, review, and approve internal and external project reports including project budgets, cash flow forecasts, and project status reports.
  • Routinely present project updates to senior management.
  • Lead multi-discipline project teams in support of assigned projects.
  • Direct and oversee the subcontract bid process and prepare detailed scope of work documents for supplier and subcontractor contracts.
  • Develop, implement, execute, and oversee prime contract and subcontractor invoicing processes.
  • Direct the securing of applicable project permits.
  • Coordinate work with Purchasing to ensure that requested material is expedited and received as needed for the construction of a project.
  • Work effectively with all divisions including Dacon, Field Services, Engineering, and Sales.
  • Provide guidance and informal mentorship to Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers on project execution best practices.
  • Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned or requested.

  • Provide senior management with clear, accurate project intelligence that supports strategic decision-making across the portfolio.
  • Elevate team performance by leading multi-discipline project teams and mentoring Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication, reliable execution, and consistent project delivery.

Minimum Qualifications / Experience

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Science/Management, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred; 4 years of directly relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the supervision and management of budgets and work groups.
  • Strong understanding of financial aspects of project controls.
  • Ability to negotiate and influence key decision makers.
  • Technical writing skills with an understanding of business management concepts.
  • Proficiency in cost control or project management software such as Microsoft Project and Primavera.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as necessary, including occasional overnight travel for trainings or meetings.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Preferred

  • Experience managing high-voltage projects is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of substations, substation control, and transmission systems is strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements

LEVEL 3 - Hybrid (Office & Field Exposure)

  • Ability to sit for extended periods during office-based work.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during field visits.
  • Ability to walk on uneven terrain, gravel, and graded surfaces.
  • Ability to navigate active construction environments including stairs, ramps, and temporary walkways.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, FR clothing, and hearing protection.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as required.
